This is how the planet’s capacity to produce food will change due to global warming

Researchers from the Institute of Economic Analysis (IAE) of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) have developed a platform that allows us to predict how climate change erodes agricultural potential in areas around the planet and that anticipates that, in Spain, while the Cantabrian coast, Galicia and the Pyrenees will gain productivity, a large part of the interior and the centre-east will lose it. Dubbed CADI (Climate-Driven Agricultural Decline Index), this tool offers estimates of the fall in maximum agricultural production capacity attributable to climate change, as well as projections in the different climate scenarios predicted by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) if no adaptation measures are carried out. According to its managers, its predictions serve to help political and administrative decision-makers in decision-making and in the design of adaptation measures.
