Renewable fuels have net-zero carbon dioxide emissions

Research validates the closed-loop carbon principle recognised by the scientific community and supported by European regulations
Renewable fuels, such as biofuels and efuels, have net-zero carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in their use phase, according to a study carried out by the Engineering Research Institute of Aragon (I3A) of the University of Zaragoza and presented by the Association of Renewable Fuels and Circular Economy in Spain for Sustainable Mobility (Crecemos). Specifically, this research validates the principle of closed carbon cycle recognised by the scientific community and supported by European regulations. Going into detail, the work analyzes the different types of renewable fuels and shows that the CO2 released during combustion had already been captured, either by biomass in the case of biofuels, or directly from the air through direct capture technology (DAC) in efuels.
