The IEA’s latest report on the energy sector forecasts that the share of clean energy (renewables and nuclear) in the global electricity mix will increase to 50% by the end of this decade, as natural gas also grows. Global energy demand is expected to grow by more than 3.5% annually on average for the rest of this decade, and electricity generation from renewables, natural gas and nuclear power will expand to keep pace, according to a new IEA report. Electricity 2026, released this Friday, is the IEA’s annual report on global electricity systems and markets. It provides a comprehensive analysis of recent policy trends and developments, and includes forecasts of electricity demand and supply, as well as carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions over the five-year period to 2030.
