The great review of the global environment warns of accelerated warming: “We are underestimating the magnitude of climate change”

Trump joins the Petro states again to block the political conclusions of this assessment drawn up under the umbrella of the UN

Over the past three years, 287 experts from 82 countries have been engaged in the “most comprehensive scientific assessment of the global environment to date,” as defined by the UN. It is the Global Environment Outlook report and is a grim warning about the acceleration of global warming that has taken the planet into “uncharted territory”, according to this document of more than 1,100 pages that is presented on Tuesday under the auspices of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP). In addition to being a warning sign, the publication of this report is an example of the complex context in which humanity and the environmental struggle are trapped. Because accompanying this extensive document should have been presented a political summary agreed between the scientists and the representatives of the countries. However, this text has been blocked by the Petro states in alliance with the United States, as has happened on several occasions already in this first year of the second term of Donald Trump, a denier and defender of the fossil fuel sector. This is the seventh evaluation of this type to be undertaken, which is known by the acronym GEO.
