Paebbl develops the world’s largestCO2 mineralization plant to be converted into building materials

With the commissioning of its first continuous demonstration plant in Rotterdam, Dutch-Nordic startup Paebbl has taken a key step towards the decarbonization of the construction industry.
This facility is, according to the company, the largest in the world dedicated to the continuous mineralization of CO₂, transforming it directly into construction materials. A strategic step towards climate-neutral construction. Paebbl has developed a technology that multiplies millions of times the speed of the natural CO₂ mineralization process. In simple terms, crushed olivine rocks are mixed with CO₂ captured from industrial processes. The gas is transformed into carbonate and chemically bound to the ore, permanently. The result is a fine, greenish-gray powder, composed mainly of silica-rich magnesium carbonate. For every ton of CO₂ fixed, about three tons of the final product are generated, which can replace cement and other additives in building materials. This material turns buildings into carbon sinks, rather than sources of emissions, and represents a radical change in the way we understand building materials.
