The environment ministers of the BRICS forum reaffirmed on Thursday in Brazil their commitment to cooperation for environmental protection and sustainable development and urged rich countries to strengthen financing to face the climate crisis.
In the joint declaration adopted by the forum of emerging countries in Brasilia, the ministers acknowledged “the substantial gaps” that exist between the funds available and the needs of the countries in the world.
They called on rich nations to provide “new, additional, predictable, affordable and accessible financial resources” to support those countries.
“We believe that cooperation, within and through the BRICS, has the potential to contribute to the global path towards a sustainable future and a fair and just transition for all,” the statement highlights.
In the document, the BRICS noted that eradicating poverty “is an indispensable requirement” for sustainable development and highlighted the benefits of the bioeconomy for the growth of nations.
