The organization puts on the table a climatic phenomenon known as climate whiplash, extreme and sudden climate changes that alternate prolonged periods of drought with intense rains and floods. This phenomenon is spreading throughout the world, with varying degrees of impact depending on the cities and the region. The WaterAid organization, which has analyzed the climate of the last four decades in 112 cities around the world, explains that the trend is global, but that climate changes are different depending on the areas of the world.

The drought has the greatest impact on Europe, the Arabian Peninsula region and much of the United States, while South and Southeast Asia are experiencing increasingly intense rainfall. Cities such as Dallas, Jakarta, Madrid, Nairobi, Riyadh, Melbourne and dozens more have undergone a “climate shift” in the last twenty years and have gone from extremely dry to humid climates or vice versa.
