COP29: EU plans to push for follow-up agreement to curb fossil fuels

Last month, U.N. preparatory talks barely allowed progress on how countries would act to abide by their agreement to move away from fossil fuels, and European nations and climate-vulnerable island states said major oil and gas producers blocked attempts to debate the issue.

The European Union (EU) will press other countries at this year’s COP29 climate summit to make good on their pledge to abandon fossil fuels, according to a draft of the bloc’s negotiating position seen by Reuters
