The new geopolitics revolves around green minerals

The energy transition will bolster demand for these key inputs over the next decade, with China being the best-prepared country

The green transition depends on certain key minerals, notably lithium, copper, nickel, cobalt, manganese, and graphite. Assuming that the transition is carried out in accordance with the Paris Agreement, the demand for these key inputs will almost quadruple by 2040, authors Jakob Feveile Adolfsen, Danielle Kedan and Marie-Sophie Lappe explain in their article “The Geopolitics of Vedes Minerals”, published on the ECB Blog. The authors stress that the impact on energy prices will depend on how supply is adjusted, so it is vital to ensure the supply of these green minerals.
