Spain can now levy a_CO2 tax at the border on countries outside the EU

It will affect those products imported from countries that do not have an emission reduction regime comparable to that of the European Union

The Minister for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera, today announced the introduction of a new CO₂ border tax on products from third countries. This tax will affect those products imported from countries that do not have an emission reduction regime comparable to that of the European Union. The measure, presented during the press conference after the Council of Ministers, will be incorporated into national legislation as soon as it is published in the Official State Gazette. Minister Ribera stressed that this tax seeks to ensure a protection system that does not damage the competitiveness of European industry and promotes the expansion of these instruments globally. “With this, I believe that we have managed to continue moving in the right direction,” said Ribera.
