Researchers discover how to produce recycled cement at scale with very low emissions

With the help of electric arc furnaces, researchers at the University of Cambridge have developed a new method to generate this component of concrete that, if applied, would be a major step in the fight against climate change. The production of this building material generates 7.5% of global anthropogenic CO₂ emissions.
A group of researchers from the University of Cambridge (United Kingdom) describes as an “absolute miracle” the new methodology they have discovered, which uses electric arc furnaces (EAFs), which are currently used in steel recycling, to simultaneously recycle cement, a component of concrete that consumes a lot of carbon.
