Governments plan to produce twice as many fossil fuels by 2030 as the 1.5°C limit allows

The environment agency specifies that this projection takes place despite the fact that 151 national governments have committed to reaching net-zero emissions and that the latest forecasts suggest that global demand for coal, oil and gas will peak this decade.

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) published a report on Wednesday revealing that governments plan to produce around 110% more fossil fuels by 2030 than would be compatible with limiting warming to 1.5ºC, and 69% more than would be compatible with 2ºC.
Produced by the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), Climate Analysis, E3G, the International Institute for Sustainable Development and UNEP, The Production Gap assesses governments’ planned and projected coal, oil and gas production against global levels consistent with the Paris Agreement’s temperature target.
