Renewable capacity must be increased by 1,000 GW per year until 2030 to achieve the 1.5°C climate target

WETO 2023: The 1.5°C path places electrification and efficiency as key drivers of the transition, driven by renewables, clean hydrogen and sustainable biomass

The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) has released the first volume of the World Energy Transitions Outlook (WETO) 2023 in which it identifies the way forward to immediately correct the 1.5ºC climate trajectory. The report calls for an annual increase in renewable capacity of 1,000 GW by 2030 in order to maintain the 1.5°C climate target.
