Energy consumption in the EU increased in 2021 but is expected to fall in 2022

Energy consumption in the EU, specifically primary energy, reached 1,309 million tons of oil equivalent (Mtoe) and final energy consumption, meanwhile, reached 968 Mtoe in 2021. Primary energy consumption measures total domestic energy demand, while final energy consumption refers to what users actually consume in the end.

The way to measure energy consumption in the EU is Mtoe, or what is the same, ‘millions of tons of oil equivalent’.
