Europe must increase the rate of energy demand reduction fivefold to meet the Fit 55 and the REPowerEU

The achievement of the Fit for 55 package and the REPowerEU plan in Europe will require a fivefold increase in the rate of reduction in energy demand and a threefold increase in emissions reductions achieved to date.

According to the report ‘Accelerating the transition and energy independence in the European Union’, prepared by Monitor Deloitte, this means, in terms of emissions, reducing an additional 800 MtCO2eq to those already proposed in the different Integrated Energy and Climate Plans (Pniecs) of each EU country, which is equivalent to 2-3 times the current emissions of a country like Spain in a year.
