Wholesale gas prices in Europe continued their strong increase in the third quarter of 2021, and spot contracts rose to all-time highs, well above €100/MWh. Wholesale gas market prices became very volatile and forward contracts also increased significantly, indicating that the market does not anticipate a rapid return to the price levels observed in previous years.
