In 2021 the world added nearly 257 gigawatts of renewables, contributing 81 percent in global energy additions. Solar alone accounted for 133 GW, followed by 93 GW of wind power overall, with offshore wind capacity, reaching a record 21 GW. This recent progress is encouraging, but enormous efforts are still required to stay on track towards the 1.5°C climate target.
