The study carried out by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in collaboration with the International Transport Forum (ITF) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) provides information on the evolution of tourism demand from 2016 to 2030. The model results attribute 1,597M tCO 2 related to tourism transport during 2016 (an increase of 62% since 2005) and forecast 1,998M tCO 2 in 2030 (an increase of 25% since 2016).
This means that transport-related CO 2 emissions from the tourism sector will increase by 103% from 2005 to 2030 due to growing demand, challenging the ambition of the tourism sector to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement.
