Renovation surge to improve the energy efficiency of buildings: doubling the rate of renovation to reduce emissions, boost recovery and reduce energy poverty

The European Commission has published its strategy on a renovation wave to improve the energy efficiency of buildings. The Commission aims to at least double renovation rates in the next 10 years and to ensure that renovations lead to greater energy and resource efficiency. This will improve the quality of life for people who live in and use buildings, reduce Europe’s greenhouse gas emissions, encourage digitization and improve the reuse and recycling of materials. By 2030, 35 million buildings could be renovated and up to 160,000 additional green jobs created in the construction sector.
