Report on the functioning of the European carbon market

The European Commission has published its annual report on the functioning of the European carbon market covering 2019 and the first half of 2020 in accordance with the requirements of article 10 (5) and 21 (2) of Directive 2003/87 / CE1(EU STD Directive). The report finds that emissions from installations covered by the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) fell by 9.1% in 2019 compared to 2018, the equivalent of around 152 million tonnes of _CO2 driven mainly for the energy sector. On the other hand, verified emissions from aviation continued to grow, with an increase of 1% over the previous year, or about 0.7 million tons of CO ₂ equivalent.
