Global Climate Risk Index 2021

The report by the NGO Germanwatch analyzes and classifies the extent to which countries and regions have been affected by the impacts of climate-related extreme weather events. The most recent data available for 2019 and from 2000 to 2019 were taken into account.

The most affected countries in 2019 were Mozambique, Zimbabwe, the Bahamas and Japan. For the period from 2000 to 2019, Puerto Rico, Myanmar and Haiti occupy the first positions.

The report estimates that a total of 475,000 people died worldwide between 2000 and 2019 as a direct result of 11,000 extreme weather events.
