Biogas Roadmap

The Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge has published the proposed Biogas Roadmap, which includes five lines of action with 43 specific measures to multiply by 3.8 the sustainable production of this gas from renewable sources until 2030. Focused on the recovery of waste (agricultural, municipal and sewage sludge), the Roadmap will promote the use of biogas in two main ways: the production of electricity and useful heat –especially for industry–, and its transformation into biomethane for heavy transport consumption and substitution of natural gas of fossil origin. Two short-term measures stand out: the creation of a system of guarantees of origin and the potential establishment of annual sales or consumption penetration targets.
