Impact assessment report regarding the promotion of energy from renewable sources

This working document of the European Commission analyzes the objectives, problems and needs to be addressed for an accelerated and profitable development of sustainable renewable energies, and describes some regulatory responses applicable to each scenario. Stresses that the EU’s action on renewable energies brings added value as it is more efficient and effective than the individual actions of the Member States, avoiding a fragmented approach by approaching the transition of the European energy system in a coordinated manner, guaranteeing the net reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and pollution, protect biodiversity, take advantage of the benefits of the internal market, and the advantages of economies of scale as well as technological cooperation in Europe.
