Trends and Projections in Europe in 2021

Only 21 Member States are expected to have reached emission levels below their national target in 2020. The remaining countries will need to make use of flexibilities to meet their legal objectives. Reaching the 2030 goals will be critical to ensuring a manageable subsequent increase in efforts to reach the 2050 targets. Deep and widespread change is needed across the board, from how buildings are renovated, used, heated and cooled; even how goods and people are transported.
