The Generalitat approves a decree to regulate the Climate Fund

The Government has approved the Decree to regulate the Climate Fund in which the composition and operating regime of the Interdepartmental Commission are established and in which the Climate Fund and the Climate Fund Commission are also regulated.

In a statement from the Department of the Presidency, the Catalan executive explained that it is a norm that complies with the mandate established in the Climate Change Law, approved in the summer of 2017.

The Climate Fund will be nourished by 50% of the income obtained from the tax on CO2 emissions from mechanically driven vehicles.

This fund should serve to promote the promotion of renewable energies, decentralize networks and promote electricity self-consumption, promote energy-efficient housing and sustainable mobility, efficiency and water saving or research and innovation, among other objectives.

The approved decree establishes that it will be the Interdepartmental Commission on Climate Change, with the technical assistance of the Climate Fund Commission, which will dictate the priorities when investing the resources of the fund in projects or actions of mitigation and adaptation to climate change.

The Purpose of the Climate Fund Commission is to assist the Interdepartmental Commission in setting priorities for action by the Fund and monitoring the application of resources.
