The Government promotes the National Hydrogen Center with 14 million euros until 2031

The Council of Ministers has authorized on Tuesday the signing of the third modification to the agreement between the Ministry of Science and Innovation and the Junta de Castilla-La Mancha for the creation of the consortium of the National Center for Experimentation of Hydrogen Technologies and Fuel Cells (CNH2), under which the Government commits 14 million euros for the period 2021-2031.

This agreement, which contemplates that the Junta de Castilla-La Mancha contribute another 14 million euros during the same period, represents an increase in the annuities that the center receives. Specifically, it is expected that from next year, it will receive 2.8 million euros in total, one million euros more than it had been receiving.

The authorized modification also contemplates that the agreement will have an indefinite duration, which will allow continuity to the collaboration initiated in 2007 between the two administrations, which ended on December 31, and will contribute to the consolidation of the center as a center of excellence in research, development and innovation in green energy technologies.

The budget increase of the CNH2 will improve the operation of the center through actions such as the increase in almost 50% of the permanent staff in the medium term or the increase of temporary staff up to 50% over the course of the next ten years.

The consortium for the design, construction, equipment and operation of the National Center for Experimentation in Hydrogen Technologies and Fuel Cells is a public law entity integrated by the General Administration of the State and the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla-La Mancha.

Located in Puertollano (Ciudad Real), the CNH2 aims at scientific and technological research in all aspects related to Hydrogen and Fuel Cells and focuses its activity on the production, storage, transformation, integration, distribution, applications of Hydrogen technologies, regulations, certification, safety and technological implementation and social and economic aspects of these technologies, being at the service of the entire national scientific and technological community and open to international collaboration.

In addition, it is the reference center in all technologies linked to green hydrogen, as established by the ‘Green Hydrogen Roadmap’ of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO).
