The Catalan Office of the Canvi Climàtic opens a new bag of CO 2 credits

The Catalan Office of Canvi Climàtic has opened a new bag of CO2 credits to finance projects of social entities aimed at reducing emissions of polluting gases. The exchange has been generated through 11 projects certified for the Office, which has guaranteed that the reduction of emissions has been achieved following a strict methodology and complying with international standards.

Through this route, the entities plan to raise about 75,000 euros by putting on sale almost 7,500 CO2 credits at a price of 10 euros each. The Diputació de Girona and Vectors5 Excel·lencia have inaugurated the stock exchange with the purchase of 550 credits and three, respectively.

The launch of this exchange comes after the previous one, opened in July 2018 with 4,256 credits, was sold out. Up to 21 organizations bought credits from that exchange through SedeCO2, the European CO2 Trading System.

42,650 euros were raised, which were allocated to projects to avoid food waste, replace diesel and propane boilers with others of biomass or solar panels or improve the energy efficiency of buildings, among others.

According to the Departament d’Acció Climàtica, the credits of this new exchange are not valid to comply with the Emission Rights Trading Directive, which has a specific and commercial regulation with tons of carbon determined with specific prices, derived from the European policies that have been implemented.
