The rise of biogenic CO2 as a key lever for industrial decarbonisation

PwC and InnoEnergy point out that this market, essential for e-fuels and aviation, already generates long-term purchase contracts. Its profitability requires optimising thermal integration in biomass plants. Currently, the Nordics are leading the deployment of storage infrastructures, ensuring the bankability of transformation projects.

The European race towards climate neutrality has found a new protagonist that, until recently, went unnoticed under the shadow of renewable electrification. Biogenic CO2 (that which comes from sustainable biomass and the organic fraction of waste) is consolidating itself as a critical investment niche to decarbonise sectors that are “difficult to abate”. According to the recent analysis shared by InnoEnergy and the consulting firm PwC, this market is not only an environmental solution, but an industrial lever that will transform the European CleanTech ecosystem in the next decade.
